Frequently asked questions

Are you taking my insurance?

We work with most insurances and we're currently in the process of getting into the major insurances, so chances are that we are in-network with your insurance!  Please call the office at 201-431-5115 to get an updated list of participating insurances.  You can always call your insurance and find out that way as well.

What if you are not in-network with my insurancve

Our policy and philosophy is to NEVER turn away a patient regardless of their insurance.  We will work with the patient, so they can be seen, evaluated and treated regardless of insurance - we will work with you!

Where is the practice located? is there parking at your clinic?

Our practice is located at 46 Union Ave in Cresskill, NJ.  We are inside the A+ Urgent Care (we are a separate entity sharing the same space), next door to Hudson Pharmacy and across the street from Kings supermarket.  We have plenty of parking in the back of the office and there's also access to the practice from the rear parking lot.

What is a sports medicine doctor?  Are you an Orthopedist?

A sports medicine doctor is a licensed physician who completed a sports medicine fellowship.  That physician specializes in treating sports related injuries and has expertise in the musculoskeletal system (bones,  joints, muscles etc).  Most people think that in order to be a sports medicine doctor you have to be an Orthopedist, but that is incorrect!  In fact, Dr. Shoshani is double boarded in Family Medicine and Sports Medicine.  He does not perform surgeries, but in reality most sports injuries do not require surgeries!  Sports medicine doctors can come from a variety of backgrounds (ER, pediatrics, internal medicine, PM&R to name a few).  Unlike many sports medicine doctors (mainly orthopedists), Dr. Shoshani specializes in concussion management and attempts to avoid surgery when possible.

What languages do you speak?

Dr. Shoshani was born and raised in Israel, and therefore is fluent in Hebrew.  He also grew up in Leonia and now has been living in the US for over 20 years now.  He also has a basic knowledge of Spanish.

Can you be my primary doctor?

Although Dr. Shoshani is boarded in Family Medicine and also practices in Urgent Care, his practice focuses on treating sports and musculoskeletal injuries/problems.  There is one exception to that though!  If you are an athlete and have a "routine" medical problem (ie hypertension or diabetes etc), he may make an exception as he is trained in treating you with a different approach than that of a primary care physician.  For instance, a type I diabetic needs special glucose management if he/she is an athlete depending on the sport.  The same may apply to blood pressure and other common medical problems.  But for the majority of the population we will refer out to superb local primary care physicians with whom we have an excellent working relationship.

My child may have sustained a concussion.  What should I do?

First of all he/she should not participate in any activities that may result with them sustaining an additional head/neck injury prior to being evaluated.  If there is any altered mental status please go to the nearest ER for a full and immediate evaluation.  Most concussions do not need to go to the ER though!  It is essential that he/she be evaluated by a physician who specializes in concussions to make the diagnosis!  Initially avoid NSAIDs (like Advil, Motrin, Aleve etc) as they could potentially make the blood thinner which may have a negative effect on the situation (you may give Tylenol instead).  Also, do not wake your child up every hour to see if they are OK!  Because guess what, they will wake up with a really bad headache the morning after if you decide to do so!  Make sure they get evaluated and cleared by a physician who specializes in concussion management prior to going back to his/her sport!

Do you have in-house imaging?

We do perform x-rays in the office.  We do not have an MRI, but I work closely with several imaging facilities and can get a scan within a matter of days and sooner if needed!

I am not an athlete.  Should I come see you?

We treat all musculoskeletal injuries/pain.  Dr Shoshani is also passionate regarding wellness and nutrition.  He treats all ages, from when a child can walk to the elderly,  He often treats patients who suffer from painful joints due to arthritis.  His goal is to treat all patients.  From time to time, if you have a very specific injury he may refer a patient out, but most patients he treats himself as they are within the scope of his practice.  You can always call and ask to speak with him personally!

Do you do sports physicals? Can I have my doctor do it?

Yes, Dr Shoshani does sports physicals.  He specializes in sports medicine.  That means that he was trained to listen to the athletic heart and other items that your primary care doctor is not an expert in.  He is certified in the state of NJ to make the cardiac assessment (a physician MUST have this training/certification in order to sign off on a sports physical in this state).  Dr Shoshani serves as the sports physician for several schools and often reviews physicals that other physicians done.

Dr Shoshani follows the AMSSM (American Medical Society of Sports Medicine) guidelines.  As far as your doctor, it depends on their qualifications and comfort level.

I highly recommend that you fill out the physical forms prior to your visit as a majority of the evaluation comes from those forms.
